About This City
Indian Wells is a small desert city located in Riverside County. It is tucked in between Palm Desert and La Quinta. A very small community, it is home to roughly 5,000 people. Originally an Indian village, it later grew swiftly as a result of the Great West Gold Rush. In later years, settlers established date palm ranches, further cementing the area’s longevity. Today, it is a resort town, partly famous for being home to the Indian Wells Masters Tennis Tournament, which is one of the largest tennis tournaments in the world. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, the town benefited from the Hollywood and celebrity boom that enhances many of the other desert cities in this region. Desi Arnex opened a famous hotel (now the Indian Wells Resort Hotel), and other celebrities are known to live and visit in the area. Like many of the other desert cities, Indian Wells makes an ideal location for a winter wedding.
